PEELS is a geographical surname, just like Verwoerd, Haar, Van Amerongen, and Van Duuren. Joannes Peels was born in about 1605 in the border area of the Dutch provinces Noord-Brabant and Limburg known as De PEEL (pronounced as "pale"). His descendants lived in "Peel" villages like Deurne, Dommelen, Someren, and Waalre. My grandfather Johannes Peels (Deurne 1876) emigrated to Cologne, Germany, to make a living as a vegetable grower. One of his daughters returned to Holland to become the mother of my siblings and me. The small database indexed here contains about 500 individuals and some 150 surnames. We do appreciate your help with our ongoing research. For any contributions or for inquiries on your ancestors email genealogy at verwoerd dot info.
